Mission of RCACP
To provide temporary shelter for stray, abandoned, and surrendered animals to return them to their owners or find them permanent suitable new homes. To provide cost effective sheltering through a regional partnership to insure the highest live release rate practical for our community.
The Regional Center receives stray and owner relinquished animals from Roanoke City, Roanoke County, Botetourt County and the Town of Vinton.
The Regional Center for Animal Care and Protection serves the City of Roanoke, the Counties of Botetourt and Roanoke, and the Town of Vinton, and is an “open intake facility”. The Regional Center primarily handles stray animals picked up by the Animal Control Officers employed by the municipalities, but also accepts strays found, and animals owned, by citizens of the municipalities. Each year the Regional Center receives between 5,000 and 6,500 animals. more >

Adoption InformationDo you want to help animals on a temporary basis? You must live in the jurisdictions that we serve and not exceed your pet limit.
What you should know before your adopt.
Every third Friday and Saturday, RCACP will be reducing the adoption fees on our longterm residents. You can name your own price for animals who have been in the shelter 45 days or longer.
Check out our new Adoption Application. Our fee schedule can be found here. Animals adopted out of state must be "adoption ready."
Pet owners do not always reclaim their pets, so RCACP will accept adoption applications during the stray hold period. Adoptions are performed in the order of first approved application.
If you wish to sponsor an adoption, please make checks payable to RCACP, or pay with cash or credit card at the facility. We cannot hold prepaid cards or hold cash.
